Oleic Acid, deglycosylated vitamin D-binding protein, nitric oxide: a molecular triad made lethal to cancer

Significance Statement

The paper entitled “Oleic Acid, deglycosylated vitamin D-binding protein, nitric oxide: a molecular triad made lethal to cancer” by Ruggiero and Colleagues, published in Anticancer Res. 2014 Jul;34(7):3569-78, describes for the first time the successful results of an integrated immunotherapeutic approach aimed at advanced cancer treatment. This approach, termed The Swiss Protocol® was developed by Marco Ruggiero, MD, PhD, Director of Science at Immuno Biotech, and is described with the acronym “NIH”. “N” stands for Nutrition and indicates a very low-carbohydrate, high-protein ketogenic diet that is essential for slowing or even blocking cancer cell proliferation and tumor promotion. “I” stands for Immune Surveillance and indicates the powerful immune stimulating and anticancer effects of a molecular complex made by oleic acid and deglycosylated vitamin D-binding protein also known as oleic acid-GcMAF (Gc protein-derived Macrophage Activating Factor). “H” stands for “Healthy Human Microbiome” and indicates the necessity to reconstitute this vital organ that is often compromised in cancer patients as well as in patients suffering from variety of chronic conditions. This latter task is achieved with “N”, nutrition, thanks to a special fermented food product that reconstitutes the human core microbiome and is naturally rich in oleic acid-GcMAF. The Swiss Protocol®, based on the results described in this paper, is now implemented in a number of hospitals and clinics in Europe, the United States and Asia with excellent results. Here we present the case of a 73-year old man with a very large stage IV glioblastoma multiforme in his right hemisphere (Figure 1, left panel). The patient had been labeled incurable/inoperable and had been given a prognosis of a few weeks in June 2014. After the implementation of The Swiss Protocol®, the growth of the tumor was arrested and the patient could be operated in December 2014 with surgical eradication of the tumor (Figure 1, right panel). Interestingly, thanks to the successful reconstitution of the microbiome, often defined also as “the third brain”, the patient did not suffer any neurologic alteration and he is now recuperating all his functions despite the massive loss of cerebral tissue. This case, together with other successful results obtained in breast and pancreatic cancer patients, was presented, after peer-review, at the 9th International Conference of Anticancer Research, held in Ocotber 2014 in Greece. Overall, these results indicate that this novel integrated protocol has the potential to open a new perspective in cancer treatment.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Oleic Acid (OA) has been shown to have anticancer properties mediated by interaction with proteins such as {Alpha}-lactalbumin and lactoferrins. Therefore, we synthesized complexes of Oleic Acid and Gc protein-derived macrophage activating factor (GcMAF) that inhibits per se cancer cell proliferation and metastatic potential. We hypothesised that Oleic Acid-GcMAF complexes could exploit the anticancer properties of both Oleic Acid and GcMAF in a synergistic manner. We postulated that the stimulating effects of GcMAF on macrophages might lead to release of nitric oxide (NO).

PATIENTS AND METHODS:

Patients with advanced cancer were treated at the Immuno Biotech Treatment Centre with Oleic Acid-GcMAF-based integrative immunotherapy in combination with a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet, fermented milk products containing naturally-produced GcMAF,Vitamin D3, omega-3 fatty acids and low-dose acetylsalicylic acid.

RESULTS:

Measuring the tumour by ultrasonographic techniques, we observed a decrease of tumour volume of about 25%.

CONCLUSION:

These observations demonstrate that Oleic Acid, GcMAF and NO can be properly combined and specifically delivered to advanced cancerpatients with significant effects on immune system stimulation and tumour volume reduction avoiding harmful side-effects.
